Andy spoke with us about his firm, the professionals he works along-side of and what the future holds for them. Company: Adnan Kelana Haryanto & Hermanto Name: Andy Kelana Email:
[email protected] Web Address: AKHH.com Address: Chase Plaza, Jl. Jendral Sudirman Kav. 21, Jakarta, 12920, Indonesia Telephone: +62-21-5208270 Each of the founding partners has been practicing law for over fifteen years, and is well-known in their respective practice areas. Founding partner, Helena Adnan specialises on banking and finance and is an active member of the Association of Capital Market Lawyers; Stefanus Haryanto is well-known for his works in dispute settlements and is the firm’s partner in charge of litigations, competition law, insurances and environ- mental practice areas. AKHH is fortunate that it is able to retain and attract talents and has a relatively low turn-over rate for its attorneys. When we recruit attorneys, we look not only at personal capabilities (such as experiences, intelli- gence and motivation) but also at the attorney’s ability to work with the existing team and clients. We believe that our greatest assets are our people so we spend a great deal of efforts to develop and improve employee levels of competence through training. Our lawyers are encouraged to attend courses, workshops, training and exposure to International Legal Practices ensuring their in depth understanding of both the International and Domestic legal landscape. Our attorneys are periodically seconded to the clients, allowing them to forge a closer relationship and have first-hand experiences with the clients’ operations. Specialising in cross-border and transnational transactions allow us to attract better talents and to expand our client base. We focus on the client’s individual need and offer flexibility in terms of how the works (and the associated fee) are to be structured. For potential clients, AKHH is traditionally known for being more of a project company’s firm. We prefer to grow with our clients and serve them on a long term basis. Many of our major clients have been working with the firm for more than 10 years. Our clients include major multinational as well as domestic institutions such as: Apple, American Express, Axiata, Boeing Corporation, Chevron, Ericsson, Google, Mitsui, Oracle, and Siemens; and domestic clients including: PT Telkom, Indosat, Tower Bersama Infrastructure, Bank BNI, Perusahaan Gas Negara ((PGN) and PERTAMINA. In addition to private clients, AKHH also assists public organizations, such as the United States Department of Agriculture, Bank Indonesia, and IATA, and non-profit organizations, such as Rainforest Alliance. We take client interests as our paramount priority and strive to provide them with highly responsive, accurate and effective services. We measure our level of success based on the clients’ satisfaction with our services. AKHH strongly believe in being pro-active and we aim to advise clients on the most current developments in Indonesian law and its interpretation where it stands to affect them, thus reducing clients’ risk exposure arising from changes in the Indonesian legal landscape. The legal industry in Indonesia has developed tremendously in the past 20 years and with it come new chal- lenges, which include increased competition and higher expectations from clients. Indonesia is also affected by recent consolidations in the international legal markets bringing pressure on fees as well as scarcities in local talents. The global and domestic economic conditions are a concern for us. Since our firm corporate practice areas largely rest on infrastructure, any economic downturn is likely to have an impact on us. We are hopeful of foreign investors’ renewed interest on Indonesian infrastructure projects or assets. The most difficult challenge is to maintain our good reputation. However, we are confident that we will succeed and achieve our goal as a leading independent law firm in Indonesia. AKHH’s competitive edge lies in its ability to deliver individualized value-added solutions aimed at addressing specific client needs. We firmly believe that a successful client-lawyer relationship involves an investment in time familiarizing ourselves with our client’s operational needs and fostering strong professional relationships. Our competent and dedicated team of lawyers is selected through a rigorous selection process to ensure delivery of only the highest quality of work, consistency, efficiency and responsiveness to our client’s needs. We aspire to become a first-class independent firm. Our plan is not to expand into too many practice areas, but to focus on certain key practice areas where we have established a strong presence. We plan to build strong working relationship with international firms that specialize in those areas.
