He has a broad background as an in-house counsel, chief legal counsel and as a board member of several companies. He has handled mergers and acquisitions, disputes, sensitive business issues and crisis management. This has given him great commercial experience and knowledge of different aspects of commercial law. For the past 15 years, Lars Göthlin has primarily worked as an arbitrator in both Swedish and International arbitration proceedings in addition to his mediation work. In the legal industry one of the biggest challenges for Swedish firms is to be competitive with the large English and American firms. In order to be truly successful within the commercial area you have to be a specialist or be able to offer an all-round service. In terms of my overriding philosophy as I’m a sole practitioner I only take assignments as an arbitrator or mediator. The basis for my work is that clients appreciate my independence, reliability and legal/commercial competence. In order to meet my client’s needs I have to follow any developments in the arbitration area. For me as a sole practitioner my reputation is built through mouth to mouth feedback among litigators, arbitra- tors and general counsels.
