Mr Awad graduated from the state University of New York at Binghampton in 1976 and went on to study law at the Albany Law School of Union University. He was admitted to the New York bar in 1982. In addition to his legal practice, Mr Awad is a lecturer for the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, National Crime Victim Bar Association, New York State Bar Association and other various local bar associations. Record Breaking Cases Since its inception more than 30 years ago, the lawyers at SAM have prosecuted over 1000 medical malpractice cases and argued more than 100 matters before New York State’s Appellate courts. One such case involved the Supreme Court, Queens County, returning a $30 million verdict against a laboratory and gynaecologist who misread a Pap smear and failed to diagnose cervical cancer. It is the largest reported verdict involving cervical cancer, nationally. The firm, however, has a strong track record for successes which began with now deceased founder of the firm, Jerome D Silberstein, who graduated from Brooklyn Law in 1950 and subsequently became a trial lawyer for more than 50 years. Mr Silbertsein won the largest verdict of the year in 2002 in Nassau County. The $35 million verdict was against hospital and paediatric neurology for negligent diagnosis and treatment of enzyme disorder.
