Acquisition International - Leading Advisers 2018 83 Acquisition Internatio al - Issu 5 9 Developing Strong Relationships The needs of a new client will be addressed by experienced attorneys who will first determine the anticipated outcome and timing. As a boutique firm, Looper Goodwine expects to develop a strong relationship with the client to understand the needs of the company. The attorneys typically work directly with the senior executives or the General Counsel of Looper Goodwine’s clients. When clients request assistance to seek industry partners in the U.S., the attorneys are often able to introduce them to other clients or parties that would make appropriate contracting parties. Looper Goodwine intends to maintain its status as a midsize law firm, managing the costs and achieving results efficiently. The growth of large law firms and rapid lateral attorney movement among law firms in the current market opens more opportunities for a boutique law firm in the oil and gas industry, because there are not many. Achieving success as a midsize law firm, requires attention to legal costs and practical solutions and documentation approaches. PJ Goodwine and Don Looper left their respective larger firms in 2014 to form this boutique firm. Both had been with their respective prior firms for over 20 years. Experienced lawyers joined them. The goal in forming Looper Goodwine, was to continue to have direct relationships with clients without being in an environment where profits are only made by having numerous associates with high billing rates being thrown at projects. Looper Goodwine’s approach is to supplement the executive team of their clients. They work as a team in the firm, but do not assign more lawyers than are necessary for any project. The clients will be represented by a lawyer that is experienced for the project. Taylor Mouledoux is an excellent litigator at Looper Goodwine who has already made partner, demonstrating that Looper Goodwine is a great law firm home for young, creative lawyers looking to be part of a growing law firm with growing clients. Continuing to attract exciting international projects, Looper Goodwine is currently working with a client who is developing a new petroleum infrastructure network in South America, and beginning a new project for giving tax advice to a foreign government in Africa. As a result of the firm’s expertise in offshore drilling regulatory matters and its approach to focus on achieving the client’s goal cost effectively, the New Orleans office has been handling major litigation in the United States representing foreign oil company clients operating in the U.S. Most of all, Looper Goodwine’s goal is always to save the client more money than the cost of the fees.
