38 Acquisition International - 2018 Business Excellence Awards BE180027 Most Innovative Documentary Film Production Company - South East Europe Victoria Baltag Production Victoria Baltag Production is a film production company aiming to both inform and entertain the viewer. Offering both art and commercial videos, the firm has built a strong reputation for excellence thanks to its collaborative approach and commitment to excellence in filmmaking, as Victoria highlights. “My firm, Victoria Baltag Production, started from humble beginnings, and we have acquired everything we have achieved so far through serious work commitment, high tech training and high class education. We also took advice from the best filmmakers in the world: Christopher Nolan, Michel Hazanavicius, Bertrand Tavernier, Steven Spielberg, Abdellatif Kechiche (Oscar and Cannes winners). Since 2012 we produced more than 60 videos and got more than 20 national and international awards (for shorts, documentaries, presentation visuals, interviews, reportages, promotional materials). “In our view, the production of a film is 20% mathematics, 40% organizational management, 40% art. We calculate everything to be in place way in advance, prior a project forecast and a risk assessment analysis. We take account of the clients’ needs and come with our personalised added value in terms of advice and recommendations.” As a woman operating a business in a tough industry, Victoria understands the challenges facing novice filmmakers today. She explores these in more detail and outlines how they can overcome them to achieve success. “Cinematography is a tough industry, as well as a very competitive one. To enrol in this endeavour, you have to be either very rich or very lucky. Even a little financial support for newcomers in the industry would be so well received, particularly by women, who often struggle to enter it, as 2016 statistics show that only 7% out of the directors working in Hollywood are women and only 19% get behind-the scene jobs. “To achieve success, I personally learn every day, taking advice from my team, family and those around me, as well as seeking out mentors in the industry. As a business, Victoria Baltag Production are young and we need to prove our potential, expertise and experience. We aim to work with the best directors and film staff team in the world in the next 5-10 years and we want to get visibility and recognition for our work through international first class awards, theatre screenings world-wide and collaboration with the best actors in the world. This all takes time and hard work but I am confident in what we can achieve.” Looking ahead, Victoria foresees even greater success for her Victoria Baltag Production as it undertakes a host of new and invigorating projects, as she is proud to conclude. “With regards to the future, I am keen to work on peculiar, beautiful projects that make people come to cinema world-wide. I want to create a strategy in film which equal bits of art, culture and education. “Currently, we are in post-production with the first feature film about the ‘re-education phenomenon’ and the ‘Pitesti Experiment’, which is based on a true story. We are also in development with the reproduction of Benjamin Fondane’s lost film ‘Tararira’. The movie was produced in Buenos Aires in 1936. We are in discussion with another two amazing stories: the life of the greatest African acrobat and the legend of Peter and Ines. All of these exciting projects offer us many great opportunities for further success and experience which we are keen to take advantage of.” Victoria Baltag Production produces art footage (short and long-length), anthropological documentaries and feature films inspired by history, culture, science and technology.
