22 Acquisition International - 2019 Global CFO Excellence Awards ChemoMetec is a Danish founded company, which specializes in the development, manufacturing and sales of high-quality automated Cell Counters, Advanced Cell Analyzers and Image Cytometers to help streamline research, process development, and manufacturing processes for maximum efficiency. CFO Claus Madsen provides us with an insight into the company and his role in driving it to success. ChemoMetec riginally established in 1997 and listed on the Nasdaq Copenhagen Stock Exchange in 2006, ChemoMetec is specialized in development, production and sale of high-quality analysis equipment, used for counting and analyzing cells in a broad range of areas. Today, the company’s sales are exported to more than 100 countries through its own sales and logistics organisation. The head office is in Allerød, north of Copenhagen, with sales offices in the US, France, Germany,the UK and the Netherlands. It now employs around 90 full- time employees who create a range of unique solutions to meet the customers’ requirements, as Claus Madsen highlights in his opening comments. “Over the years, ChemoMetec we have built strong and long-term relations with important customer groups and we continuously work to strengthen our customer service: not least through our local organizations that have expanded significantly in recent years. We now have a close collaboration with our customers and experts within cell counting and analysis to develop our technical expertise and adapt our products to customer needs. “Our products are based on a patented, unique technology platform that ensures high-quality analysis of results and consistency between samples. The products are known for their robustness and high precision, as well as advanced analysis capabilities with a user- friendly interface. “Our focus on quality has resulted in our technology is rapidly becoming the gold standard for cell count and viability in the field of CAR-T and T-cell therapy. The reason for this is that our cell counters deliver the highest level of precision amongst all counting methods, as well as being 21CFR part 11 ready. Our analysis equipment is sold to an increasingly large customer group, among other, within cell-based immunotherapy, cancer and stem cell research, drug development and production as well as production and quality control of a range of products such as beer, animal semen and milk.” Such incredible success could not be achieved without a dedicated and experienced leadership team, which includes Claus Madsen, who as CFO works daily with disseminating results and at times complex subject areas for senior management, the board of directors, employees, the stock exchange, investors and banks. He describes his experience and how he came to achieve the role of CFO for this innovative company. O “Personally, my career experience before becoming CFO at ChemoMetec was as CFO in Clear Channel. Before I started as CFO, I worked as a certified public accountant at Ernst & Young. This varied experience has led me to thrive in the role of entrusted advisor and examiner. I am used to providing advice for senior management and asking the critical questions. I maintain a focus on the existing business and value creation, checking and following up on figures, preparing a unified decision basis and guaranteeing quality in both financial and strategic decisions. “This background as a certified public accountant and the work as Lead Auditor of clients within various industries has given a strong foundation and commercial mindset. I have developed a strong ability to develop winning teams and deliver on operations to support overall business strategies and objectives - ensuring the finance function is an integrated and value-creating part of business.” As he looks to the future, Claus Madsen is optimistic that ChemoMetec’s ongoing focus on innovation will drive both the firm and his career to new heights, as he proudly concludes. “Moving forward, ChemoMetec is committed to developing and improving analytical measurement techniques within the fields of cell counting and cell analysis.
