He discusses this experience in detail and outlines how he came to achieve the prestigious position of Chief Financial Officer for such a globally respected firm. “Personally, I startedmy career among the big four financial companies where I learnt the core concepts of finance, including IFRS, reporting, tax, risk management, internal controls, finance management and corporate governance. “After becoming disillusioned with the big four financial firms I moved to a smaller consulting company, becoming its Managing partner, where I could deploy the best practices and knowledge I had learned in my prior role. Being a direct point of escalation for clients and their real pain-points, I faced a different level of responsibility including working with my team, utilization rates, margins, delegation, confidentiality, strategy, variety of stakeholders’ scrutiny, etc. and higher complexity as the smaller consulting practices are not really into the “agreed upon procedures” and contractual “scope of services” but rather more agile and creative without jeopardizing the quality. “Later I joined BULPROS as a CFO in the late 2015, which was the first job out of my comfort zone as the consultants’ seats are typically on the other side of the barricade and you do what you are paid for. BULPROS back then was an IT start-up growing in with all the immatureness that comes along – not very well-developed finance function, in a mode of migration to an ERP and a local GAAP reporter. In six months, the ERP was running, and the company became a successful IFRS adopter. In 12 months, we started to develop the Group controlling and reporting as separate functions. Then in 18 months we got on to integrating newly acquired companies and moved to a shared service model following the geographical expansion of the Group, especially in DACH. These were exciting developments and I was proud to be a part of this innovative and dynamic team at that time.” Moving forward, BULPROS has many exciting challenges to overcome as the technology market looks at the difference between people and automation and how it can integrate the two, and Boris is looking forward to the opportunities this challenge and others will afford both him and his team.
