64 Acquisition International - Leading Adviser 2020 Leading Cross-Border Corporate and M&A Lawyer of the Year, Germany 36 Issue 1 2021 keeping pace with the necessary constructions that will see them develop further. Working with a small firm like Legal Alliance means that clients can receive an intimate, personal service that truly meets their needs. Dr Scheele would be the first to admit that international issues require a very local solution, one which takes into account how people from both sides feel. Actions like a hostile takeover in another country are always made easier when a client trusts the lawyer to use their own discretion, and this discretion is best earned when a client knows the lawyer is focused on their business alone. The focus that a mind like Dr Scheele’s can bring to a legal case is unquestioned, with a knowledge of the field that is second to none. His approach not only ensures that everyone benefits, but that everyone understands each other. When he talks of building bridges between people and nations, he’s not underselling the point. His work is invaluable to so many achieving the best possible results. It’s why he has been recognised for his incredible work now, and for many years to come. The world’s borders are set to become more open than they have ever been before. Trading and operating on this international basis requires a slightly different perspective. For Dr. Michael Scheele, who has been working in foreign legal issues for the majority of his career, it is little surprise he has been recognised for his work and named Leading Cross-Border Corporate and M&A Lawyer of the Year, Germany by Acquisition International. We take a closer look at the man to examine his success. Few people can claim to have represented the likes of Michael Jackson, but for Dr. Scheele, the famous pop musician represented a small stage in a long and prosperous career. With his aptitude for international legal issues, especially in the MENA region, he has found a place in the world that is not only evolving constantly but requires his talents to ensure the best possible results for all parties. Dr Scheele’s passion for working in foreign countries began when he was a student. Not only was he able to visit the USA, he graduated as an interpreter for English, becoming Honorary Consul for the young Republic of Seychelles (with jurisdiction in all of Germany). His early work saw him representing celebrity clients on an international basis as well as serving on the committee which drafted the first democratic constitution of the Republic of Albania. International issues have always been part of his life, and building bridges to new frontiers equally so. It’s what has inspired him while working in the Gulf Region. Dr Scheele has found that the increasing pace of internationalism and the transformation of economic and state structures in MENA countries have created a state of flux. Western countries that are looking to invest in these countries must confront a challenging mix of reform, infrastructure and culture uncertainty. It’s a complicated area in which to work, but one which will allow legal and strategic consultants to play the role of a multi- cultural bridge. Dr Scheele sees his role not just as a lawyer, but as someone who is opening the doors to this new market for colleagues worldwide. More and more countries in the MENA region are looking for international cooperation partners, be it for investments in Western countries, for technology transfer or for import. These countries also need support P These countries also need support keeping pace with the necessary constructions that will see them develop further.
