Mr Asif was convicted on 21st of August 2015 in the Crown Court at Manchester of rape of a woman with whom he had an Islamic marriage. For this offence he received a sentenced of 7 and a ½ years imprisonment and he was also required to comply with the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period. The appellant was represented by solicitors and counsel. Mr Asif submitted an appeal against conviction through a second legal team, but the single judge refused leave. The appellant then instructed Ms Naila Akhter and the Court granted leave to appeal on a ground relating to fresh evidence.
