Acquisition International - Global Excellence Awards 2018 163 Acquisition International - Issue 12 2018 37 Boutique Offering Andrea herself is a lawyer with ample experience in the resolution of legal conflicts and the direction of judicial and arbitral processes, having practiced law for more than 20 years. She has successfully participated in the alternative solution of conflicts through judicial and extrajudicial agreements; and serves as arbitrator of law in the most important Arbitration entities in and out of Costa Rica, for example, at the CCA - Chamber of Commerce of Costa Rica, CICA - AMCHAM, CRC - CFIA Federated College of Engineers and Architects, recently admitted by the CACC Arbitration Center of the Chamber of Caracas and the CEDCA Business Center of Conciliation and Arbitration of Venezuela, the IAC - BVI International Arbitration Centre. She is also a member of the Counsel of CAM –Costa Rican Bar Associations. She is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London, the Arbitration Commission and ADR of the ICC – Paris, Member of Institute of World Business Law- Paris Andrea’s education includes the University of Costa Rica (Law Degree, 1994), Notary Public (1995); University for International Cooperation and the Latin American Center for Business Arbitration (Arbitrator, 2005), Castilla La Mancha University, Toledo, Spain (Specialist in Civil and Commercial Liability, 2010), intensive training sessions in international commercial arbitration, with special emphasis on ICC rules and procedures, handling of the IBA Guidelines; in addition, of multiple courses and seminars of continuing education in law. She also became a Mediator on 2017, with the MWI Mediation Training Program in Boston, Massachusetts. She has been Criminal Judge (1995), Lawyer of the Third Criminal Chamber (1996) and Lawyer of the Constitutional Chamber (1996-2001), Member of the Editorial Board of Legal Investigations SA (1997-2002), member of the Board of Directors of the West Branch of the Costa Rican Bar Association (2011-2012); Coordinator of the Sub- Commission of the Costa Rican Bar Association in charge of relations between the trial lawyers and the Supreme Court of Justice (2012), member of the ICC Arbitration Commission (2011 to date). With regards to the future, Andrea plans to continue working and growing with the same standards she has already employed, as well as participating more in international commercial arbitration. But above all, she wants to emphasize the strength of the team surrounding her and their dedication to the cause. “We are a team and a family at the same time,” she smiles. “Our values reflect solidarity, respect, and inclusion.” Despite Andrea’s outstanding credentials and Hulbert Volio Montero’s successful track record, there are still challenges and issues which the firm faces on a daily basis. However, Andrea takes this all in her stride. “Life is a challenge and, without a challenge in front of you, work can be boring,” enthuses Andrea. “I always challenge myself and my team. The opportunities are always passing by and, we need time and wisdom to see them.”
