We invited Qais al Khonji to tell us more about the firm and the exciting services that it offers. ounded in 2014, Genesis Projects and Investments is the first Omani company to bring modern, innovative and cost affective upstream E & P Laboratory solutions to the Sultanate of Oman. Offering a wide variety of services, the team at Genesis does core analysis as well as lube analysis. Operating in the industry means it is a niche business, in which Businesses work with Business and the company’s clients are predominantly the major six oil players in Oman’s local market. Starting off the discussion, Qais tells us why it is important that the team are well prepared to deal with any queries that its clients may have, especially because of the industry that he works in. He is keen to praise his staff, and mentions that he keeps its client base reasonably small, meaning he can deliver customer service which is of the highest quality. “My business is niche, which would mean that my greatest asset is my employees and expertise. It is a very technical speciality and only few people whom are into this field, and as such, the best way to get noticed, is by participating in tenders, and these tenders come out once every four years. Since I only have six potential clients, it makes it a very challenging business but definitely an industry that I find worthwhile operating in. Providing us with his thoughts on the Oil market at present, Qais tells us that although there has been a decrease in oil prices, he has embraced this challenge and turned it into an opportunity. I am affected, but in a positive way, and I see the drop of oil prices is a blessing. This is because the purpose of my business is to help clients to enhance their production. As such, when the oil prices are dropped, that’s when my business becomes handy to those clients. Everyone looks to enhance their production.” With the Oil market being quite small, Qais and his company possess many attributes which are essential to achieving success in the industry. He tells us about the needs for patience and why the size of the market has contributed to his achievements. “At the moment, the reach that we have is quite small due to the industry being market to market. In order to succeed, companies and their staff must possess extreme patience and have confidence themselves, their employees, their idea and when would be the best time to implement their ideas. “Genesis offers more than just a service, and this is why it has expanded to downstream activities. Employees must be prepared and ready to grab the opportunities that come their way, whilst also making sure staff get the required periodic training.” Since founding the company, Qais has had to overcome many challenges, but he has also been able to explore many opportunities. He told us a bit more about the issues that the firm has had to embrace. “There were many opportunities when I founded the company, and focusing in one area was a mistake. Therefore, we have expanded to downstream activities TLM. In terms of challenges there were many, including finding the right expertise when operating in a small and slow market. The final product is a report, this report is very delicate and has to be very accurate.
