Developed and founded by Dr Susanna Unsworth, it is a specialist online menopause clinic, focused on helping women who struggle to find accurate and reliable health advice in a health system that often under-supports and under-funds female healthcare. Dr Unsworth chose to specialise in the menopause to give women the help they deserve by providing access to quality, well-researched, evidence-based menopause care. Menopause healthcare is not currently a core part of training for medical students, and only represents a very small element of the GP education curriculum. Dr Unsworth made a commitment to improving this in her own training, spending a lot of her personal time gaining extra qualifications in women’s health and menopause care, and ultimately becoming certified with the British Menopause Society. Whilst she has been qualified as a doctor for over 16 years, with over 10 years of experience as a GP, Cambridge Women’s Health is a relatively new company, founded by Dr Unsworth in 2020. It offers individualised menopause consultations, provides a holistic and well- rounded approach, and helps patients to build a treatment plan that they can take back to their GP. Cambridge Women’s Health is aimed at supporting all women going through the challenges that menopause brings to their life. It approaches them with empathy and sensitivity, knowing that menopause and perimenopause can impact women in all manner of different ways – manifesting in different symptoms, needing individualised treatment plans, and calling for a myriad of management strategies. Dr Unsworth is proficient at advising on all such things, lending her patients the support network they need as soon as they meet with her, tailoring their support to fit their circumstances. In addition, the clinic gives each patient the chance to truly get to understand what their body is going through. In sessions set specifically aside to be safe spaces for such things, Dr Unsworth gives each woman the time they need to talk through how menopause affects them, answering any questions, comments, or concerns and developing a bespoke treatment plan for them. Dr Unsworth strives to reach the highest standards of excellence in her work, giving educational talks, being active on social media, and taking a unique approach that her clients laud as outstanding. Even though her business is relatively new, and she opened at an extremely C challenging time for the healthcare industry as the pandemic began to take effect, Dr Unsworth pivoted Cambridge Women’s Health quickly from face to face appointments to remote video consultations. In this way, she has kept stepping up to the plate for her patients, being there for them at a time where it has been more important than ever. Remote consulting has actually served the clinic well. As Dr Unsworth now offers appointments where the client can chat to her from the comfort of their own home, she finds that they are more willing to discuss their symptoms in-depth and openly, and the clinic is now even more accessible. With the barriers of a clinical setting and the need to travel removed, Cambridge Women’s Health can help more people than ever – something she aims to continue cultivating. Going forward, Dr Unsworth is hoping to improve women’s access to healthcare in the public sector as well as the private, providing more educational resources across the board to increase awareness, and improving that much needed access to quality menopause treatment.
