24 Acquisition International - Business Excellence Awards 2021 Best International Cybercrime Non-Profit Organisation 2021 non-profit association that was founded in 2006 by expert minds and with a mission to lead the industry into the future, The International Association of Cybercrime Prevention – or AILCC – is promoting increased awareness of the growing threat of cybercrime. It does this through education, training, and information dissemination in line with 1901 French Laws, led by a team made up of Dr. Mohamed Chawki, an international cybercrime expert from Egypt, Dr. Saad Mahjoub from Tunisia, Judge Moustafa Mahmoud from Egypt, Mr. Ken Gamble from Australia and Miss Aurore Cuffi, a French citizen. The main headquarters of AILCC is based in Paris, but it is a worldwide organisation; alongside its Paris base, it has branches in Australia, South Africa, Morocco, Lebanon, and Brazil. Fundamentally, the AILCC focuses on helping the victims of cybercrime for no charge, organising regular conferences and workshops that cover different elements of the field, including new threats and potential breaches. Most of these are also free. Since it’s beginnings, it has garnered a global reputation for being one of the foremost cybersecurity experts, which has certainly helped it to further spread awareness and negate the biggest risk that criminals can exploit: ignorance. With technology increasing in complexity and competency every day, it is more important than ever that global players are aware of the growing scale of cybercrime threat, and how to best protect themselves. In 2008, AILCC began running an annual conference to do just that – to A date, it has hosted over 35 educational talks, including three in 2020 that were chaired or co-chaired by Dr Mohamad Chawki. Having gained observer status with UNCITRAL, it is dedicated to keeping its finger on the pulse of developments, staying one step ahead of cybercriminals. Therefore, clients who approach it for help and advice relating to cybercrime can expect empathic, dedicated, and technically advanced responses. Its team of volunteers include university professors, judges, lawyers, and researchers, all advancing the field day by day and ensuring it can meet this expectation. Furthermore, membership is totally free with AILCC, and comes with access to most events. For its work, Dr Mohamad Chawki was awarded the Medal of Excellence by the Brazilian government in 2009, further accredited by the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts (UK) in 2020. To delve deeper into its voluntary staff, each one is a cyberlaw or ICT postgraduate with prestigious credentials, fluent in French and highly flexible. This team has helped the association to withstand a number of challenges, including the financial struggles it has encountered as it determinedly keeps its services as cost-free as possible. It therefore relies on sponsors such as Internet Fraud Watchdog - Global, and successfully pushed through the impacts of Covid-19 with the monetary backing of such sponsors; this resulted in a successful year despite the odds, with one of its 2020 conferences gathering over 600 online participants. Going forward, it will thus be continuing on its mission to gather new members from all over the world, gathering qualified volunteers for its team and helping all victims of cybercrime respond to and mitigate risk effectively. It will also be looking to open many more chapters of AILCC in more corners of the globe, showing cybercrime its dedication to creating an international network, each branch enabling it to better curb a crime that surpasses territorial borders. Furthermore, it will be working with more prestigious academic institutions, bolstered by its recent signing of an MoU with Cybercrime and Cybersecurity Centre at Boston University in 2020, working with chairperson Professor Kyung-Shick Choi. The latter centre encourages the synergy between criminology and cybersecurity, believing with the two working together, both fields will benefit, developing better strategies and practices as a result. This joins its roster of existing MoUs; it is currently signed with CMRPI (Morocco), Aix-Marseille University (France), UNAFRI (Uganda), DSPCF (Lebanon), Snail Attorneys (South Africa) and IFW – Global (Australia), and hopes there will be many more in the future. The International Association of Cybercrime Prevention is a non-profit organisation, working hard to bolster the knowledge of cybercrime and cybersecurity across the board, helping the victims of such attacks to manage the incident and mitigate future risk. Working with educational institutes to spread awareness of proper strategy and defence against cyberattacks, it has made itself an international voice in its field.
