Using state-of-the-art technology for diagnoses and treatments, discover why Dr Uddin is considered to be the most influential ENT surgeon of 2019 in the East Midlands. hysicians have a duty of care to their patients, and nowhere is that more evident than in the offices of ENT specialist, Dr Javed Uddin. Working as a consultant for the University Hospitals of Leicester, he also operates his private practices at Spire Hospital and Nuffield Health. Dr Uddin has a phenomenal repertoire and treats the whole range of ENT conditions across both adults and children, including ear and hearing disorders, glue ear, tinnitus and balance problems, nasal blockage (due to allergies and nasal polyps), sinus disease and smell problems, cosmetic rhinoplasty after nose trauma, voice and swallowing disorders, tonsil and snoring problems, neck lumps, head and neck cancer and thyroid disease. Since completing his training in all aspects of ENT disease, Dr Uddin undertook specialist fellowship training in advanced thyroid and head and neck disease, and has worked in NHS university teaching hospitals for more than twenty years. He has been awarded the prestigious gold medal from the Royal Society of Medicine for his outstanding performance in the national final surgical exams, prior to his consultant appointment. He was appointed to the post of ENT consultant at the University Hospitals of Leicester in 2012, and is the current head of the ENT service in Leicester. Dr Uddin is a council member of the Midland Institute of Otolaryngology. His other notable memberships include him being a fellow at The Royal College of Surgeons of England and a member of ENT UK. As well as being a consultant ENT surgeon at the University Hospitals of Leicester, Dr Uddin also runs clinics in smaller community hospitals in the Leicestershire region including Rutland Memorial Hospital in Oakham. Dr Uddin delivers a super-specialist practice in advanced sinus surgery and diseases of the nose. He also offers specialist clinics for children’s disorders and has a keen clinical interest in thyroid disease and head and neck cancer, and has set up a dedicated neck lump clinic to study his interest further. More recently, his current medical research is based on the growth of new blood vessels in tumours, as well as observational patterns in sinus disease and the link between the nose and the lungs. With extensive experience in endoscopic (keyhole) surgery for nasal obstruction, and his desire for innovation and surgical advancement, he has set up a state-of- the-art 3D surgical navigation system for advanced sinus surgery. Dr Uddin is truly a master of the endoscope and uses it in ear, nose and throat surgery and the title of endoscopic ENT guru would certainly befit him. Not content to simply practice excellent patient care in the ENT department of Leicester’s hospitals, Dr Uddin is also actively involved in training the next generation of medical practitioners. An honorary clinical lecturer at the University of Leicester, he regularly teaches, trains and educates medical students, general practitioners and P trainee surgeons in his day to day practice and on nationally-held courses. A pioneer as well as a teacher, Dr Uddin was responsible for performing Leicester’s first ever EXIT (Ex Utero Intrapartum Treatment) procedure on a baby still inside the mother’s womb. As well as being covered in the national press, the good doctor was also recognised for passion and innovation by the University Hospitals of Leicester, achieving the esteemed Caring at its Best award. Fundamentally, it is Dr Uddin’s specialist care and knowledge along with his detailed diagnostic skills which has enabled him to become the East Midland’s foremost ENT surgeon and specialist.
