The internal culture is based upon contribution and accountability, where staff members are relied upon for meaningful and innovate contributions to the operation and direction of the firm.” Bringing the interview to a close, David reflects on some of the challenges which the firm have faced throughout the years and touches on ones which he believes may occur in the future. “There are two industry-specific challenges that exist and the trend lines for these challenges appear to be growing in the near future. Maximizing Intellectual Property Asset Value The first is the increasing commoditization of patent and trademark registration filing and prosecution, and the second is the market valuation of IP assets. Increasing commoditization of patent and trademark registration filing and prosecution services is placing downward price pressure on initial filing services at the expense of long-term IP asset value. The decline IP valuation has been largely due to market response to uncertainty in patent subject matter eligibility resulting from several judicial decisions. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has taken affirmative steps to address this issue and I expect that market valuation of patents will slowly begin to reverse their downward trajectory.” Looking ahead to what the future holds, Rosenbaum IP’s strategic plan entails growing their brand management and trademark practice and IP litigation practice. Members of the firm are also expanding their pro bono mentorship of start-up companies.
