Natasha Wallace is a former HR Director with extensive experience in leadership development and organisational change. Having worked as a leader supporting leadership teams for almost two decades, she burnt out. It was this experience that led her to recognise that unless leaders are paying attention to what is going on inside and around them – unless they are conscious – they are likely to be behaving and thinking in a way that undermines wellbeing and performance. This is what led Natasha to develop a new leadership model that meets the needs of leaders and leadership teams and the teams they lead. Natasha explains, “Conscious Leadership allows leaders to use self-awareness and self-care to better engage with the world around them – and be at their best more often. Learning the impact of our thinking and behaviour is going to be central to leaders modelling the behaviour that will drive performance in the future of work. “ Natasha believes that ‘consciousness’ is the key to creating better workplaces built on better levels of inclusion, mental health, and collaboration in the workplace. And the research that she has done alongside UCL has proven this. Natasha and her team are now working with leaders around the globe to raise consciousness, and to improve working lives for everyone. Natasha says, “I have always believed that I should be and could be making a bigger difference to society. Leaving my job and setting up my own business was scary and it’s taken a few years to get closer to where I wanted to be – where I could scale Conscious Leadership to make an important difference in the world. Founder and CEO, Natasha Wallace is the pioneer behind this new and progressive approach to leadership, so we got in touch with the lady herself to learn more about the company and her career. a new and progressive approach to leadership that will allow leaders and their teams to thrive in a post-pandemic world.” She recalls, “There was a time that I wondered “why would anyone listen to me?”, and what I have learned is that if you are doing good in the world, and if you keep on speaking about it, that people will listen. “I don’t think you can underestimate the tenacity and focus that is required to make a real difference in the world and I would say that my biggest achievement to date is staying focused on the purpose of what I was doing, even when I have doubted myself.” Natasha finds it reassuring that there are more women taking up leadership roles in the industry, although the numbers are still very imbalanced and women can often come up against resistance, driven by a legacy of male leadership. As a tech founder, TCLC is dependent on investment and with only 2% of VC investment going into female founded start-ups, more work needs to be done. She says, “Rather than women playing the supporting role, we need to empower women so that they know they are capable of making an important difference in the world. Having a diversity of opinion and approach is what will help us to make the societal changes needed to support each other, and women will play an important role in that. I’m a huge advocate for other women, but we need as a group to advocate for ourselves to make the difference that’s needed.” Now, Natasha’s focus is on the future of TCLC, with the new app, Consciously being launched in August, which is the first of its kind on the market. Consciously will give leaders and managers access to content and a continuous learning journey so that they can lead their own personal development – to support their wellbeing and performance in an easy to access way. TCLC’s second funding round is going well and the company has ambitious growth plans.
