Based in the Nigerian city of Calabar, the business’ roots can be found in its primary operation of logistics and international trade, from which it has branched out to execute an array of successful projects across both Nigeria and the rest of the world. These include venturing into the likes of food production, fashion, and everything in between, all bolstered by a deep understanding of what is a rapidly evolving global business landscape. Today famed for its unique expertise in catering to every need of its clients, the path traversed by the company has been meticulously laid out by visionary Managing Director and CEO Mrs. Aniefiok Iton. Excelling in a vast and demanding role, Aniefiok believes her success to be a direct result of her diligence and consistency, two areas that serve her incredibly well as she continues to make waves in a maledominated industry. In this space, as well as all of the hardship that comes from running a business, Aniefiok also has to deal with the feelings of insecurity and competition that emanate from her male counterparts, as well as the occasional male figure who feels that their ego has been bruised after receiving direction from a female principal. It is no secret that it is more difficult for a woman to get noticed and ascend the company ladder, but by establishing confidence in the minds of others through dignity, focus, will power, and confidence, Aniefiok believes the possibilities for women are endless. Although there is much that still needs to be done, Aniefiok is proud of the changes that the wider industry has made towards women and inclusion more broadly, with many of the businesses that she has dealt with championing diversity and providing all with an equal opportunity. Brightflow is at the forefront of pioneering these changes, having established the Brightflow Foundation, the Brightflow Institute, and Focus Trade Diversity in order to create what Aniefiok refers to as an, “enabling environment for the less privileged, a platform to train all people, especially women, who want to develop their skills and boost the productivity of their workplaces.” Commenting further on this, Aniefiok describes her ultimate aim as being to, “build a platform that will help develop the skills of people of all ages.” Looking ahead to the future of her career, Aniefiok has a profitable next few years lined up through Brightflow Conglomerate, with several projects in the pipeline relating to the company’s partnerships with local and state governments. Through these undertakings, the longBrightflow Conglomerate & Device is a group of businesses encompassing Brightflow Logistics Service, Brightflow Foundation for Women and Children, as well as Brightflow Skills Development & Vocational Institute, to name just a few. It’s little wonder then that Auto Glass Xperts is a preferred provider for insurance companies and a partner of choice for businesses across the North Texas area. Paula says, “We’re dedicated to providing excellent customer service and quality workmanship. There’s no job too big or too small for us and we always ensure we return your vehicle to its original integrity. We’re so confident in our work that we offer a lifetime guarantee.” Paula’s career began in 1982 when she became an Inside Sales Representative for the Auto Glass Company. Later working for several companies in the industry, Paula learned the ropes in customer service, outside sales and management. Before buying Auto Glass Xperts in 2009 she traveled throughout Texas and Arkansas, training customer service representatives. Paula attributes her success in the industry to the many great mentors and managers she’s had the pleasure of working with. She tells us, “When I first started in the car industry there were very few women. Since then, the mindset of consumers has been slowly changing. More customers trust women to have knowledge and experience with cars. Many of our car dealership customers now have female Service Managers and Service Advisors. But to my knowledge, I’m still the only female auto glass shop owner.” 18 months ago, Paula made the major decision to move to new premises. Having been in the same location for over 20 years, the company was fast running out of space and was ready for an upgrade. Paula explains, “We needed a larger facility. We’ve doubled our space by moving into a ‘built-to-suit’ shop. I was involved in the design process and collaborated with the builder to create a space specific to our needs. We’re very proud of our beautiful new place and get many compliments from customers. It is not your average car repair facility. It definitely looks woman-owned.” For Paula, the keys to success are hard work, knowledge and a great team. She knows every process and method required to complete an excellent job and is always available for her staff and customers. She says, “Everything we accomplish is thanks to the hard work and dedication of the entire team. I’m only a small part of that. We have a wonderful salesperson with over 20 years of experience and relationships in our market. Our office staff are very experienced and knowledgeable, and our highly skilled technicians are the stars.” Paula prioritises staff training and keeping equipment up-to-date to ensure Auto Glass Xperts keeps pace with evolving technology. Aiming to increase its sales year-on-year, Auto Glass Xperts is on track to hit its target for 2024.
10 | Acquisition International, Influential Businesswoman Awards 2024 Most Impactful Insurance Businesswoman 2024 (South Africa): Bridget Mokwena-Halala ating back to 1913, Assupol is a proudly South African insurance company that has spent its years balancing ‘the spirit of innovation and humility of service’. Having integrated this ethos into every aspect of the collective, Assupol has quickly become a household name across the region – one that promises high quality life insurance cover that’s designed to give every person peace of mind. Affordable, broad, and carefully curated, these insurance packages have earned synonymity with high quality service, and it’s this very trait that has been impressing families throughout South Africa for well over a century. Most recently, however, Assupol has seen is greatest surge in popularity, and it all comes down to the guidance of one woman in particular – Bridget Mokwena-Halala. Recognised by Acquisition International as someone worthy of a spot among some of 2024’s most influential businesswomen, Bridget is a woman who requires no introduction. Driven by her passion, and empowered by her intrinsic talent, Bridget has become an integral part of the larger Assupol collective, with her beliefs and ideologies seeking to uplift those who may have never been presented with the chances she offers them. For far too long, the insurance sphere has been dominated by a masculine presence, leaving little room for women to find their own foothold in the industry. Bridget, however, has her sights set on dismantling these preestablished boundaries, instead seeking to use her position to elevate and empower black women operating across the realm of life insurance. As a direct result of this non-negotiable transformation agenda, Assupol has cultivated the greatest increase of black staff the market has ever seen, each recognised for their talents and abundance of skill in the field. In essence, Bridget has not only offered positions to those who align with the company’s vision, but people who are genuinely passionate about their work. This very dedication is what has allowed Assupol to continuously pursue innovation and growth, while guiding new and old clients through their life insurance ventures. Though it may be an almost impossible feat, Bridget has struck the perfect balance between diversity and development, creating an environment that fosters an unapologetic sense of brilliance on a daily basis. Just one glance into Assupol’s staff composition is enough to see just how successful Bridget has been in her efforts to finally turn the spotlight onto black talent. Assupol details how – “Our staff compliment is 86% black, of which 62% are women and 55% black women. Our financial advisors are 98% black, of which 57% are black females. This has resulted in a 5-fold growth of our embedded value for the last 13 years.” As a proud South African collective, making every person – regardless of skin tone or gender – feel represented and respected has become a core aspect of Assupol, and it’s a value that Bridget is dedicated to upholding for the foreseeable future. Undoubtedly, Assupol’s tale is one of remarkable progress – not only does it deliver invaluable life insurance services to those seeking a seamless entry into the industry’s midst, but it does so while uplifting those within the collective itself. As such, it’s become something of a reference for transformation – an example of genuine diversity and inclusion that should certainly be followed. Partner this with over a century of experience and a vivid understanding of the market’s needs, and you’ve got an exceptional company whose value has only soared under Bridget’s watch. Boasting high levels of client service – specifically in the realm of the payment of claims – and priding itself as the industry’s first collective to pay cash back, Assupol is an entity exemplary of how business and diversity can coincide in perfect harmony. Since it entered onto the scene way back in 1913, the company has treated South Africa to a considerate, dependable life insurance provider whose support for underappreciated communities has created ripples across the wider market. Thanks to Assupol, and specifically Bridget’s guidance, the life insurance profession is finally emulating the example set, and it’s a refreshing sight to see. Since entering onto the scene, Assupol has acted as a conduit for industry-wide change. Not only has it marked a distinct shift in the quality of life insurance services, but it stands as a paragon of diversity in a market that often focuses solely on masculine leaders. Bridget, however, has spent her years assuring women that, despite having to work harder than their male counterparts, they can thrive just as much, if not more. Her example is one that truly resonates with the wider industry, and it isn’t difficult to understand why. Acquisition International hosts the Influential Businesswoman Awards in the hopes of inspiring those who have faced struggles in their roles as a result of their gender. It’s a reassuring reflection of the women across the world who, against all odds, have triumphed in their respective spheres, and Bridget Mokwena-Halala is a shining example of just one of these exemplary women. Leveraging her skills, determination, and genuine passion for uplifting others, Bridget has led Assupol into a new age of business – an age that we can’t wait to see further unfold in the near future. Contact: Lebohang Tekela Company: Assupol Life Web Address: https://assupol.co.za/ There’s nothing more important than protecting those who protect us. People in service are the ones most at risk of harm, meaning that it’s imperative to provide them with insurance opportunities that have been specifically crafted with their unique lifestyles in mind. Enter Assupol Life – a collective whose journey over 110 years has seen it providing comprehensive life, funeral, and retirement insurance to clients across South Africa. At the heart of it all is award-winning businesswoman Bridget Mokwena-Halala, whose exemplary affinity for helping others has elevated Assupol to all new heights. D

12 | Acquisition International, Influential Businesswoman Awards 2024 ina has been in the entertainment industry for over 25 years now, a veteran of its intricacies and customs. She understands, simply, what it takes to succeed and build a reputation in an environment where everyone wants to please and exceed all expectations. With 25 years in the industry behind her, Nina is truly thriving. As she is one of the most successful artists who has flown under the radar in the past, we asked her to tell us more about her experience as a rising star with such diverse experience in the entertainment industry. “I am a self-employed businesswoman working internationally in the entertainment industry as a singer/songwriter, actress, and presenter. My clients range from well-known brands like Porsche, BMW, Mercedes Benz, to private and corporate functions. As a singer and songwriter, I have been ghost-writing and singing for numerous acts and genres.” Not only that, but she has been a studio singer for the likes of Jack White, and appeared in P!NK’s ‘Just like a Pill’ music video back in 2002, among numerous other impressive credentials. Today, Nina is writing, recording, and producing her first self-produced album, which blends a mixture of pop, soul, funk, and smooth jazz. She never stops looking for the next adventure. Life’s about love: Love yourself. Love your family and friends. Love what you do. Nina appears almost omnipresent at times, hopping from event to event and gig to gig. From Germany – her home country – to Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, the Caribbean, Spain, and the UK, she enjoys the variety her occupation provides her. One of her greatest joys though is being an artist on cruises, which embody this energised atmosphere Nina has created for herself. “Being a guest artist on cruises is one of my greatest pleasures, as well as playing in jazz clubs (with house band ‘Groove Lords’ at the ‘Night Club at Bayerischer Hof’) or at festivals and private functions,” she adds. She has toured through huge concert halls of Germany with musical shows like ‘Hollywood in Concert’ and ‘Elvis meets Madonna’ alongside bringing the real Munich Oktoberfest to ‘Yas Island’ in Abu Dhabi. Her resume continues to grow and spiral in new directions every year. “A year ago, I started flying as well (as cabin crew) and I am finishing my MBA online. It is never too late to follow all your dreams and do a few things at once, if you have as much energy as I have. They call me the energizer bunny.” Throughout all of this, and as an ASW Ambassador (‘A Small World’) Nina has proven herself a strong advocate for other women, using her position to help those around her. The industry can be unforgiving, especially for women, as Nina goes on to explain in more detail. “I have always been an advocate of women supporting women and being just as driven and confident as men. When I started in the business over 25 years ago, sexism was rampant and, still today, it is a man’s world. However, since the #metoo and equal pay debate, things have started to change, and people have at least become more aware of these sensitive topics.” Stereotypes abound though, and Nina’s determination to be good at everything she touches has faced significant attrition at every step. She must work harder and work longer than her male counterparts to enjoy the same recognition. This is most apparent in her roles as a presenter. “Apart from sexual harassment, today you still get the prejudice of being a ‘dumb blonde’ just by your looks. Even in this day and age, where we are all about diversity and inclusion, we should be free of any prejudice. Especially as a woman, you will always have to prove that you know your stuff or that you can deal with business matters, not just artistic ones. Mostly that happens when I am working as a presenter for trade shows in an all-male environment and I am handling a difficult technological topic or when I am hosting a sports event. The advice I can give other women is to be confident and most importantly, be prepared. If you can show your knowledge, you will earn the respect that you should have been given in the first place.” I love keeping a small circle of smart, hard-working women around me and we always involve each other in our newest projects when collaborations are possible. Bringing joy is a large motivator for Nina when it comes to her career. She enjoys every aspect of what she does, and that shines through her performances and hosting duties. Her in-the-works album is just the latest step on that natural journey, allowing her to flex her creative and Nina Fischer is impressive, not least because of her many talents. She is a singer, actress, bilingual presenter, and businesswoman who has forged her path through the entertainment industry and left an indelible mark on the market. Nina is defined by hard work and an ever-present need to do more, meet more people, travel further afield, and learn. She is in constant forward momentum, unstoppable, energetic, and alive with vibrancy. We spoke with Nina to find out more. vocal talents in a way that is uniquely her. Nina is keenly aware of the importance of entertainment in the current world climate, as hard as just living can be at the moment. Bringing joy is what she’s good at, and that can never be overstated in its importance to people. “It is most important to me to release a few great albums and bring joy to the audience at live gigs. Bringing a distraction to the people from the hard times we are in after economic challenges and COVID is vital for me. I will continue to travel the world via airplane and ship while doing gigs.” This, ultimately, is what the future holds for Nina Fischer as she explores the years in front of her – ripe with opportunity as they are. Her goals, while many, hinge on developing her position as a singer/songwriter and solo artist, as she explains in her closing comments. “I would like to strengthen my position as a singer/songwriter and solo artist even Nina Fischer further, travel the whole world with music, and help other emerging artists along the way. Singers always ask me for advice on keeping a healthy voice and getting the best international gigs.” Other than that? Well, she plans on creating an online course and writing a book, as well. Her energy and joie de vivre is apparent, exuding from every element and aspect of Nina’s life. But, when all is said and done, she plans on living a quiet life. “One day, I hope to live by the beach and own a dog.” Until that day, however, it’s all systems go. Watch this space, Nina Fischer is doing incredible things. Contact Details Company: Nina Fischer Name: Nina Fischer Email: [email protected] Web Address: www.ninafischer.com
14 | Acquisition International, Influential Businesswoman Awards 2024 Best Idyllic Retreat CEO 2024 (North West England): Louise Monk ack in 2018, Louise Monk was walking her dog Archie in the stunning Lancashire countryside when she hit upon an idea. She wanted to showcase the fabulous surroundings that she got to appreciate every day growing up on her family farm. The dynamic duo Louise and Chris had met when they were teenagers, soon falling in love and later marrying. Raising three children, Louise helped Chris run his successful haulage firm – now a large haulage business, Monks Contractors, based in Mellor Brook employing over 120 local people. When the kids were grown, Louise developed a burning ambition to create a signature business herself. Four years later, Everything Retreat opened its doors to visitors for the first time. Louise says, “We are truly blessed to have some of the best views for as far as the eye can see. I’d completed a hospitality degree whilst bringing up the kids, so it was easy to see the potential to create something amazing on our doorstep. I said to Chris, “I’m going to build lodges on this land and make them so luxurious that people will travel from all over the country to enjoy what we take for granted”.” Construction of the first lodges on site was underway when the COVID-19 pandemic threatened to derail plans in early 2021. Fortunately, Louise had chosen to work with the local craftsmen who built her family home. The team hatched a plan which involved scheduling work on different lodges simultaneously. Work continued and everyone remained safe. In July 2022, Everything Retreat was ready for business. Today, the site offers luxury accommodation across a total of 12 individual lodges. Six Unique lodges themed around some of Louise’s favourite holiday destinations include Itambé (African theme), Koya (Japanese) and Skála (Scandinavian). Add to that, six identical Signature lodges designed to complement the outstanding natural beauty of the Ribble Valley and peaceful nights and chilled-out days are assured. Each lodge features a private hot tub, outdoor seating area and log burner for ultimate comfort. Everything Retreat’s concierge service assists guests with everything from transportation and recommending local attractions, to curating tailored experiences. The team are committed to making every stay an unforgettable experience. Opening on Fridays and Saturdays, the retreat’s aptly named ‘Balance Bar’ offers a range of delicious drinks and refreshing cocktails. There’s also a tantalising menu of dishes made on-site using locally sourced produce. And for those who prefer to dine ‘inlodge’, Everything Retreat delivers breakfasts, afternoon teas and cheese and charcuterie boards direct to the door. Despite the initial scepticism of neighbours and residents in the area, the project is a resounding success. With peace and tranquillity being the norm on-site, Everything Retreat enhances the local landscape, putting Ribble Valley tourism on the map for individuals, corporate clients and group wellness retreats. The company has already scooped several accolades including Ribble Valley Innovation in Tourism Award, Star in Tourism, New Business Award, Social Media Champion, and LUXlife’s ‘Most Idyllic Place to Stay in Lancashire.’ Currently, Louise is also a finalist in the prestigious EVA Awards. Louise says, “Our original idea for selfcatering lodges moved to a luxury concept very quickly. We want to work with clients to ensure every step of their journey is perfect. Our mantra is ‘everything and more’. We plan to become more and more detailed, offering bespoke packages for events such as private parties, baby showers, babymoons, proposals and corporate events.” Although the company’s onsite bar and restaurant were not in the original plans, Everything Retreat puts them to good use. Recent events have included live music, garden games, pizza night and barbecues. The company welcomed a ladies’ business networking group, and car manufacturers Porsche and BMW have both hosted events at the site in the same week! Louise says, “We also welcome high net worth individuals and celebrities who appreciate the privacy that the gated retreat offers, they can relax in the knowledge that they can rest and recuperate in seclusion.” Future plans for Everything Retreat are about to get even more exciting. There’s planning permission in the pipeline to convert an existing stable block into a brand-new wellness area. Alongside this converting a house which borders the property is also on the agenda. Louise explains, “We’ve bought a fivebedroomed house adjacent to the existing development which we are renovating. It will have a private garden, a professional kitchen and a swim spa. When it’s ready we’ll host celebrity chef collaborations and private dinners for unique celebrations there.” Where Louise and the team are concerned there’s no shortage of ideas for driving the business forward. Everything Retreat is developing a guest app featuring booking information and guided walks. The company also has an eye on sustainability. In conjunction with the Woodland Trust and local contractors, the development will soon feature ponds, owl boxes, beehives, and a tree-planting initiative is about to go into action. Believing every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, the company is committed to giving them the understanding and choices that enable that to happen. Founder and CEO of NLM, Janet Willicott, is challenging outdated, unscientific thinking and substandard comprehension to herald a new age of understanding and positive outcomes for healthier and fulfilling lives. Most Inspiring Health Representation & Advocacy Businesswoman 2024 (London): Janet Willicott s the mother, carer, and educator of a child with rare diseases, Janet Willicott has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by millions of parents and children who fall through the cracks of systems built around ‘normalcy’ or the health and education ‘mean’. Born and raised in Africa, Janet moved to the UK 30 years ago following a stay in Germany. As a former law student, Janet became disillusioned with her chosen career after realising that law and justice are not synonymous. Whilst in Germany, Janet also spent time caring for disabled children and this brief diversion in her working life changed the course of her career forever. She told us, “In my time working in Germany, I realised it was not me supporting the disabled children, but rather them supporting me to grow and gain wisdom. When I came to England to visit my paternal family, I decided to stay. I dived into the corporate world of legal compliance as an environmental and public health scientist. I networked, formed connections, and learned how to be more British, especially the change in accent. When I fell pregnant and gave birth to my half-Greek son, it was exhilarating but, at the same time, very isolating. With no family nearby to help, I relied on my colleagues, who have since become my lifelong friends.” When Janet’s son, whom she describes as ‘one of the most amazing humans to grace this planet’, was born with an array of complex health anomalies and disabilities, all the skills and professional knowledge she had gained until that point came together. She explains, “I had to learn to navigate a system not geared toward a child described as an enigma. I applied my qualifications, skills and sheer gumption and committed to fighting for my child’s rights, eventually securing appropriate health, education, and social care provision, which afforded him a better way of life. I secured expert genetic studies, health analysis and effective support - which led to his being diagnosed with a Rare Disease (SETD 5) in 2013 – he was one of seven. The study data was published in the Journal of Human Genetics in the USA in 2014, thus changing medical, scientific, and human genetic knowledge worldwide.” Striving to understand the intricacies of an often-flawed system, Janet founded NLM in 2016. The company name is inspired by Janet’s son, who commented one day, “I just want people to see me as normal, Mommy, because I am normal like me, and everybody is normal like themselves; why can’t some people understand this? All children want to be happy, like me.” So often, society keeps referring to the word normal. I ask – what is normal? Does normal exist? Or is it a fallacy? We are all as normal as the day we were born. We share one commonality – that we are of one human race. Today, NLM offers consultancy, specialist forensic services, and advocacy in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Public, Educational, Human Rights Law, and Family Law Support Services to secure legal public health principles. NLM also offers educational representation through the UK’s specialist educational judicial courts. The company works with governments, local authorities, health services, professional bodies, charities, rare disease groups and international Health Agencies. Janet focuses on DME [Double Multiple Exceptional] Young People (Children with high learning potential and one or more special education needs or disability. DME children can, therefore, be defined as a distinct minority within a minority. Janet’s next specialist focuses on forensic services in analysing health misdiagnoses or false accusations of complex health. NLM’s newest service is researching and preparing Standalone Phenotypic Guides documenting a child or young person’s expressions, traits, and behaviours linked to their specific condition, disability, or rare disease. This removes any guesswork, enabling all professionals invested in supporting the child to understand better and address their needs holistically; this is known as a Needs-based and not a resourcebased intervention. Janet’s passion and purpose are about helping parents (often women) who are wrongly accused of emotionally harming/ abusing or neglecting their children. She told us, “Parents can sometimes find themselves the subject of Social Services Child Protection matters through no fault of their own. That’s why I founded The Justice Initiative CIC. We conduct pre-matter and post-matter casework, applying medical forensic analysis to investigate complex and perplexing health anomalies where parents feel they have been wrongfully ordered and accused of having harmed their children. This free and impartial service (still in infancy) offers access to pro bono experts across all disciplines, ready to collaborate and challenge continuing systemic failings within applied sectors to prevent detrimental harm and further systemic abuses. Janet advises other women looking to enter her professional sector: “You cannot change the past, no matter how hard you try; accept what has happened, then learn from these failings to prepare for a better tomorrow. The A “ ”
Normal Like Me present is what matters. Let go of what others have said. Be firm - you will earn respect. Be fair - everyone is on their own journey; then have fun - life’s too short. Breathe and laugh. The Suffragettes suffered to afford us a voice. Let’s not allow their suffering to be in vain.” Regarding her personal achievements, Janet is and has been an incredible human, woman, and mother. She was awarded a partnership with the World Council for Health, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health, a British Institute of Innkeeping (Public Health) Fellowship, a Membership to the Royal Society of Medicine, an Associate of The Royal College of Physicians (UK) (Faculty of Public Health), and much more! Looking to the future, Janet is completing her PhD (Accountability Law), plans to write two books, appear at more speaking engagements, and enter the Ironman (UK) 2025 triathlon. 18 | Acquisition International, Influential Businesswoman Awards 2024 Tax & Accounting CEO of the Year 2024 (Germany): Evelyn Krämer velyn Krämer is the innovative CEO of Tax Consulting firm, Steuerberatung Oettinger. Based in Haan near Düsseldorf, the company currently employs 10 people, offering services to entrepreneurs and private individuals. Describing her team as helpful, progressive, and different, Evelyn has carved out an authentic reputation in the business world. She tells us, “The consultancy was founded in 2007. We help our customers prepare financial and payroll accounting and the associated tax returns and financial statements. The key to our business is respect. We treat our clients and each other with respect; everyone is equal.” Each team member at Steuerberatung Oettinger has their speciality, whether a particular product or client niche. In addition to her considerable experience in all tax matters, Evelyn is a specialist consultant on company succession, inheritance planning and gift tax. She says, “I aim to show my clients the options available for passing on their companies and inheritances during their lifetime in the most effective way. My goal is always to master difficult topics with sensitivity and success to achieve the best outcome for everyone involved.” Evelyn’s goals for Steuerberatung Oettinger include increasing the number of employees to around 20, bringing a new partner into the firm, and outlining a new continuous training and development programme for the team. In addition to her thriving tax consultancy, Evelyn has entered the competitive arena of software development. Finding herself and her team continually hitting a wall when it came to obtaining reliable access to customer documentation, Evelyn decided to take matters into her own hands. Following the successful introduction in her own firm, Evelyn has made this software available to the entire tax consultancy market. The name of her software brand is Fastdocs.de GmbH. She explains, “When our clients hired new employees we saw the same practical problems arise again and again. By using Fastdocs intelligent forms, collecting error-free master data from clients and employees is easy. Creating software that brings joy to users and promotes efficiency in the tax consulting industry is immensely satisfying for me.” So much so that Evelyn and her team designed and launched another software package in 2024. Fastdocs Crew (www.fastdocs-crew.de) offers small to medium-sized businesses an affordable one-stop solution for managing employee data, HR documentation, absences and equipment. The company presented its Fastdocs Crew software at TAXtival, a two-day gathering of professional tax consultants and related industries in June this year. Evelyn aims to introduce Fastdocs Crew to the corporate world soon. Throughout her years in business, Evelyn has become adept at understanding and defining how best to use her time and talents. At Fastdocs, her role revolves around developing a solid vision for the company and bringing together a group of talented individuals to make that vision a reality. Evelyn has recently rented new business premises, home to both Steuerberatung Oettinger and Fastdocs. She says, “The new premises is the headquarters of Fastdocs. It’s where all our products are located, as well as being a place where the tax consulting firm can grow. We are entering a period of great potential. We’re enabling our team to grow both personally and professionally and I’m very much looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.” We ask Evelyn about the challenges she’s faced until now. She tells us, “When I started my first business at 26, my biggest challenge was convincing clients that I wasn’t too young to deliver quality service. In the past, tax consulting was seen as a predominantly male profession. That’s changed over the past 20 years, but even now, women only account for around 38% of tax consultants. In software development, I find men often don’t take me seriously.” Although society is changing for the better, Evelyn is still frustrated to see the difficulty that mothers have in the working world. As an employer, she’s saddened that many women are constantly torn between work and family, often neglecting to develop themselves professionally as a result. So what would her advice to them be? “I worked very hard to get where I am today. There may have been other ways to achieve that success where I wouldn’t have had to try so hard, I know that now. I’d advise women to be brave, assert yourselves and don’t be such perfectionists. You may not have your plan 100% ready, but in my experience, you don’t need it. Believe in yourselves and get a mentor to help you.” Outside of work, Evelyn is a member of the Soroptimist Club Haan e.V. The women’s network actively campaigns for the rights of women and girls for education and equal professional opportunities. Evelyn is Chairwoman of the Board and her companies support the organisation with donations. In the past year, Evelyn also has supported the Löwenstern e.V. association in Düsseldorf and the Association of German Surgeons e.V. The second was close to Evelyn’s heart. She explains, “A friend of mine who is a surgeon flew to Zimbabwe for the association and performed voluntary surgery there. We’re always happy to support projects when we know where the money is going.” With Evelyn as the driving force, there’s no doubt that Steuerberatung Oettinger and Fastdocs will achieve great things for the rest of 2024 and beyond. 20 | Acquisition International, Influential Businesswoman Awards 2024 s many know, ESG Compliance involves a set checklist of standards which are used to measure a business or organisation’s social or environmental impact. This realm allows for those across the corporate landscape to understand more about how they affect customers, employees, the general public, and suppliers throughout their business endeavours – as well as the allimportant context of investments. In context with corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability, ESG includes more than end-goals – it involves the data and metrics required to get to business and investor end-goals. In short, ESG is an all encompassing set of standards which make it easier to have a positive impact on the world around us. With regards to ESG, we’ve found the social side of business impact to be just as important as ESG’s counterparts – and there’s a business we can truly hold to a high standard as ERG continues to raise the bar for its clients. ERG has exploded over the last decade on the back of smart acquisitions, chiefly its buyout of Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation Plc (ENRC) back in 2013. Today with over 30 years’ experience in the global metals and mining industry, it enjoys a significant position on the ever-competitive market. It is the world’s largest high-carbon ferrochrome producer by chrome content, alongside being the large producer of copper, and the only producer of high-grade aluminium in the Republic of Kazakhstan. With Dr Alexander Machkevitch acting as Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Mr Benedikt Sobotka is Chief Executive Officer, 40% of ERG is owned by the Kazakhstan government. Though its operations are far beyond the borders of the country, with significant activity across the continent of Africa, and Brazil, among many other locations. As Head of International ESG Compliance, Daniella has an important role in ensuring that ERG maintains its sustainable and ethical edge, especially in this market. With over 11 years in the corporate social responsibility space, and a history of working with large, leading corporations – such as UNICEF and Procter & Gamble – Daniella has taken all of the challenges of the role in her stride and cultivated an influential position. This role is especially important under ERG considering its elevated position within the Republic of Kazakhstan. Here, ERG acts as a pillar of economic support, epitomising a standard of excellence within the industry and greater business environment. It is also a significant driver of social development within the country, with operations representing over one-third of the total metals and mining industry. Crucially, ERG provides electricity that accounts for 20% of the country’s output, and, further still, is the largest railway operator in Central Asia. Its social responsibility is vast, and so is its influence in ensuring the continued livelihoods of tens of thousands of people. For Daniella, these factors offered an opportunity to secure ERG as a force for social and environment good. Daniella graduated from the Business School Lausanne and University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, where she earned a Master of Business Administration degree specialising in Sustainable Business Development. Since then, she has flourished within the private, public and tertiary sectors. From a personal perspective, she has grown on the back of a passion for acquiring and developing her skillset. These skills have, in turn, earned Daniella significant acclaim for managing complex systemic relationships and networks – which she utilises in her day to day work in ESG. Much of what ERG produces goes towards meeting the needs of industries and societies across the world, fuelling further economic growth. For instance, in Africa, ERG has built large-scale production facilities for its core copper and cobalt businesses. Equally, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mali, Republic of South Africa, and Mozambique, ERG has developed operations that serve the manganese, platinum, bauxite, fluorspar and coal markets. In the former, the company has recently launched its Metalkol Roan Tailings Reclamation (RTR), which swiftly became the world’s second largest standalone cobalt producer. Across the South Atlantic Ocean in the State of Bahia in Brazil, ERG is currently working on a project that involves the Pedra de Ferro mine, the Porto Sul deep-water port and the associated new FIOL broadgauge railway, to deliver best in class iron ore mining and logistical With over 80,000 employees, Eurasian Resources Group (ERG) is a leading diversified natural resources group committed to expansive development across almost 20 countries within Asia, South America, and Africa. Since 2022, Daniella Savic has been the Head of International ESG Compliance at ERG, spearheading the crucial environmental, social, and corporate governance of the group.
