38 | Acquisition International, Influential Businesswoman Awards 2024 NPO Businesswoman of the Year 2024 (UK): Jane Scott There is a simple mission at the heart of Curly Tails: to rescue pet pigs and give them a loving home. As the only exclusively porcine registered charity in England and Wales, Curly Tails provides crucial support to our curly-tailed friends. We spoke with Founder and award-winner Jane Scott to find out more about the charity’s work and ethos. Company Name: Curly Tails Contact: Jane Scott, Founder Website: www.curlytails.org www.curlytails-wellbeing.org Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/curlytailspigs Instagram & Twitter: @curlytailspigs Jane and Curly Tails have been rescuing pigs from the moment of founding back in March 2016. Since then, the charity has truly exploded, gaining momentum every year, to become what it is today: a nationally respected organisation with international fame that has championed animal rights. Its legacy and projects, Jane says, “will continue long after I have gone”. From those first seeds of growth, Jane has watched, watered, and nurtured Curly Tails in all of its endeavours. These diligent efforts have been recognised, as Jane begins to explain in more detail. “I have been awarded the BCAe for my work in education and wellbeing, along with the Prime Minister’s Points of Light Award for community. I have taken the charity to shortlisting for The King’s Award for Voluntary Service and we have been awarded Animal Welfare and Rescue Organisation of the Year 2023/2024 this past year alone. Individually and as a charity, we are finalists or nominees in several other local awards within Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire.” For Jane, these awards and nominations act to reinforce the importance of the organisation’s mission and services. For a charity, outside recognition is a lifeblood of sorts, offering vital aid to promoting what the organisation is achieving. Be driven, be passionate, believe in yourself, be honest and open, have a moral compass and, above all, love what you do. All of those awards have certainly proven potent in promoting the work Jane and her team are doing, as Jane continues. “Our visitor engagement and diary are always booked to capacity and our services are always in demand. People are realising the power of connecting to animals for mental health and wellbeing. It gives fulfilment, enhances mental health and better stability in life, and increases productivity in the workplace through better attitudes and mindsets. The demand for our successful therapeutic services continues to grow alongside our animal rescue and welfare programmes.” Education remains a focal point for Jane, as she uses Curly Tails as a platform for informing people of all ages about the importance of animal welfare, compassion, and aid. The benefits, she has discovered, are very much mutual. “We offer respite and care home enrichment visits along with nurture groups, one-to-one therapy, and self-worth sessions. We work with The Prison Reform Service, NHS community support teams, addiction centres, and young offenders along with Action4Youth, Alternative Provision for young people with SEMH or EHCPs, and team build days for large corporate companies.” Curly Tails isn’t about the money, though the financial growth is incredibly impressive. It’s about the moments between animal and human that transcend words. It’s about growing compassion, shifting attitudes, and encouraging kindness in a world that desperately needs more of it. For Jane, that is priceless, and will always be the driving motivator to keep ‘doing what she’s doing’. “For me, business and success isn’t just about money. Being respected for moral values, honesty, and integrity are the measures of achievement. I work hard to be a leader, to be unique and inspirational to enable my team to thrive, engage, to bond and grow. “I have over 30 years of professional experience in a previous and successful career and many more years of life experience that I bring to the charity that enables balanced decision making, leadership, objectives, knowledge, wisdom, and an unwavering passion to achieve what we have through honesty and compassion.” Since Jane Scott won her award of NPO Businesswoman of the Year 2024 (UK), Curly Tails has been bestowed with the title of Outstanding Local Charity at the MK Inspiration Awards, and is also a finalist in the BBC ‘Make A Difference’ Awards. We’re sure the future holds even more success for Curly Tails! “ ”
