Acquisition International - Issue 10 2018 45 Exhibiting Excellence Whilst discussing the state of the legal industry, Emma-Louise is keen to highlight that there is a lot of potential within the sector, particularly with the emergence of businesses in Nigeria, as well as the projected growth of these businesses. However, the industry faces numerous challenges, as Emma- Louise explains. “Within the legal industry currently, some of the challenges encountered are inadequate infrastructure, limited availability of technology, paucity of stenographers in courts, knowledge gap and limitations. There is also the challenge of lawyers competing with non-lawyers such as surveyors and accountants, in some areas of practice. “Furthermore, the general public in Nigeria demonstrates a below average level of interest, in engaging legal practitioners in their business dealings. The services provided by lawyers are not being utilised efficiently by the general public, especially with regard to transactions and dispute resolution. “Lastly, legal advancement is not happening at a fast pace. There is need for a comprehensive legal reform.” “Moving forward, Kenna Partners seeks to continue to explore an innovative approach in enhancing work specialisation and providing qualitative client solutions”. Emma-Louise signs off by detailing what the future holds for Kenna Partners, and also touches on the foreseeable developments within the industry. “The future is bright and promising from where we stand. We aim to expand our frontiers, continuously improve on our service delivery, and ensure that our clients always come first”. Whilst speaking on the developments within the industry, Emma explained: “In recent years, there has been a rise in online legal services. However we are not certain of the implications this will have on the industry. There is also a bill to amend the Legal Practitioners Act, The Companies and Allied Matters Act, to mention a few. It is expected that these legal reforms will improve the legal system and bring it in line with global best practices.
