Biotrix maintains a very low turnover of staff with many employees working with the team for more than 10 years.” Looking ahead to what the future holds, Stephen signs off by revealing the exciting plans which lie in the pipeline for the firm, especially following their recent success in Acquisition Intl.’s 2018 Global Excellence Awards where they were righteously awarded the accolade Most Outstanding Biogas Technology Design and Implementation Firm 2019 – South East Asia. “Biotrix continues to innovate, developing new biotreatment systems for higher solids waste streams and biogas treatment systems. The Thai market is currently stagnant with no access to export electricity to the national grid system, but prospects for the rest of S E Asia and the wider global market remain positive.” The biogas technology of Biotrix Asia is based on more than 35 years of experience from its founders, Dr Ulrike Leroff (Microbiologist), and Dr Stephen Etheridge (Chemical Engineer). During that time, the team has undertaken projects in Europe, USA, Nigeria, Central America, S E Asia, on a wide range of substrates using many different reactor designs. Recently, we caught up with Stephen Etheridge who provided us with an insight into the award- winning services the firm delivers to their clients. ince their inception, Biotrix Asia has worked to provide its clients with a “one stop shop” service for biological waste treatment and renewable energy production, providing a range of services from problem definition to solution. The Biotrix team are often found providing waste audits at small farms, undertaking laboratory studies on new or unknown substrates; or advising major corporations or government clients on renewable energy strategies. This is in addition to providing some of the largest full-scale anaerobic treatment systems in the world. Biotrix’s clients also include local and national governments and financial institutions for feasibility and planning studies and, apart from the various exhibitions the company attends, the principals are often giving presentations and formal training sessions across the region. Going into further detail about the clients the firm serves, Stephen begins by informing us of the services the team provides to their clients to ensure that they surpass their expectations. “In recent years, the team at Biotrix has focused on China and SE Asia. From our base in Bangkok, we have received contracts to design, construct and commission biogas plants to treat wastes and effluents from the Starch Industry, Ethanol Industry, Palm Oil and Agroindustry sectors, including the largest biogas plant in the world (222,000m3). Biotrix has also designed one of the smallest biogas systems, used to treat food waste at a factory. Dr Etheridge believes the company’s success is based on its focus, “A significant portion of our commissions come from word of mouth, however it is also regularly represented at trade fairs and exhibitions. Biotrix still maintains a marketing team which maintain the high profile of the company in its key sectors.” As for what makes the firm the success as we know it today, Stephen believes it is due Biotrix’s focus on satisfying the customer’s expectations by providing international level services from a S E Asia cost base, as he further explains. “Here at Biotrix, our clients expect the highest quality biological treatment systems, coupled with the latest innovations in the sector. Biotrix also provides full flexibility in providing some or all of the clients’ project requirements ranging from aerobic and anaerobic treatment, to downstream gas processing coupled with training and where requested, a full O&M package.” Working behind the scenes to ensure that deadlines are met, and goals are achieved is the dedicated, passionate team of talented individuals who form the backbone of Biotrix.
