CEO, Gunther Mull tells us what attributes he believes have contributed to the company’s success. ith its head offices in Hamburg, DERMALOG employs a team of scientists who continuously develop biometric identification systems (so-called “AFIS” and “ABIS” systems), including cutting-edge fingerprint scanning devices. The product portfolio is complemented by biometric border control systems, biometric ID cards and passports as well as biometric voting systems. “FingerLogin”, “FingerPayment” and “FingerBanking” are also solutions developed by DERMALOG, as are systems for automatic face and iris recognition. As well as Germany and Europe, the main markets of DERMALOG are in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. To date, the company has provided its technologies and solutions to more than 220 large scale installations in more than 80 countries. Describing his responsibilities as CEO, Gunther comments on his leadership style and how he encourages his staff to work to the best of his ability. He points out that it is his role to place the focus which staff should be working on, as well as reminding staff to place a firm emphasis on putting the client first. “Biometrics is a fast growing and constantly changing market. Because only with the latest technical solutions we have the chance to compete. Nevertheless, we must not neglect our core markets and customers.” Gunther is of the belief that innovation and creativity are key contributors to the success of the firm, as well as the firm’s close working relationships with staff. Employees being adaptable and versatile is important to Gunther. “DERMALOG’s major strengths include innovative products and their adaptability. In close cooperation with our customers, the best possible solution is always developed, and this in an extremely short time for the industry. This flexibility is one of the most important cornerstones of our market success.” Regarding the culture within the company, Gunther ensures that all staff are working towards achieving the same mission. For example, flat hierarchies enable rapid decision-making and accelerate the development of new solutions. In addition, our employees have a high level of personal responsibility.” Growing at a rapid rate, the firm has had to employ more staff in order to keep up with the constant development within the industry. With customers at the forefront of staff’s mind, they are always ready to respond as quickly as possible to any queries and demands which clients may have, and this is a key principle which Gunther and his staff adhere to. “Essentially, we are a fast-growing company and have to adapt to this over time. Over the past four years, we have more than doubled the number of our employees. Therefore, the continuous exchange of information is one of the most important principles of our daily work. Only in this way, is it possible to respond quickly and flexibly to individual customer requirements.” Moving forward, Gunther is optimistic about what the future holds for DERMALOG, and he talks about upcoming plans and projects which are in the pipeline for the firm, as well as some recently launched systems which are already attracting attention throughout the market. “Ultimately, within the biometry sector, Multi- biometrics, the combination of two or more biometric characteristics, is currently on the rise. Also, we have developed an Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) that simultaneously compares finger, face and eye data for maximum accuracy. With DERMALOG ABIS, we position ourselves as an innovation leader and offer the next level of secure identification.
