Acquisition International - Issue 6 2022 33 Big, Bold, and Built To Last stablished in 1977, LHT Holdings is one of Singapore’s great success stories. A small staff of 180 provides a competitive one-stop-shop solution to the international market when it comes to creating the wooden pallets, boxes and crates that transport items around the world. Their recent success, however, has come from their commitment to finding ways of making sure that their work is as environmentally friendly as possible at all times. With an annual turnover of more than S$40,000,000, there’s clearly a great deal of demand for the services that LHT Holdings has to offer. The incredible quality of their product makes them second to none in the industry. With a long history behind the company, it’s little wonder that it has proven itself more than capable of adapting to the challenges of the day, and few companies face a more formidable challenge than that of the climate crisis. The LHT Holdings team have invested significantly in making the business sustainable in the long term, with the ultimate aim of transforming their current factory into one which is 4.0 compatible. The move towards a more environmentally minded approach has seen processed pallets and crates made from about 60 to 100 percent recycling wood waste materials known as the “Innovative Processed Product Conversion (IPPC)” series. The decision to adopt this process showcases the innovative mindset that has always inspired the LHT Holdings team. It is not only more environmentally friendly, it reduces the number of steps in the manufacturing process by more than half. E This clear commitment to protecting the earth’s timber resources and reducing industrial waste comes from the very top. Chairwoman, CEO and Managing Director, May Yap feels passionately about this cause. “I play a significant role in ensuring that LHT optimizes its materials, and am instrumental in the company’s implementation of sustainable initiatives in its daily operations,” she tells us. “The low-carbon shop floor machinery, equipment, and processes could come at high price tags which may make your final product costly and uncompetitive. But, if we could recycle waste and convert it into some raw materials in our processes, we can be a game-changer in our sustainability journey.” It’s a credit to May’s tireless efforts that so much has been achieved over the last few years. That said, she has faced numerous challenges in the form of labour shortages. Whilst the move towards automation will reduce the need for people in some areas of the business, there are many which require the human touch. The COVID-19 pandemic proved the essential nature of LHT Holdings, and the vital role they play in the supply chain. As such, finding new staff is the top priority. With a sustainable mindset at the heart of the company, it’s likely that the demand for LHT Holding’s products will continue to rise. The team’s ability to provide the smallest possible carbon footprint has made them an asset to many businesses. With more people aware of the environment, the need to minimise impact has become clearer than ever before. This is a firm that has not just thrived in the past, but has established itself well enough to flourish in the future too. LHT Holdings Limited has made a name for itself as one of the largest manufacturing companies of high-quality wooden pallets, boxes, and crates in Singapore. Keeping up with demand from an international supply chain is no easy task, and they have managed it whilst being named Best Green Sustainable Wood Product Solution Manufacturing Company – 2022 in Acquisition International’s Global Excellence Awards.
