20 Acquisition International - Issue 9 2018 DG Law are a law firm specialising in litigation, wills/probate, real estate, residential/commercial property (leasing/buying/selling), business law, contracts and agreements, helping SMEs start/set up a business. Recently, we profiled the firm and spoke to Principal and Lawyer, David Gordon who reveals more about their extraordinary success. ased in the heart of London, DG Law is a team of lawyers headed by David Gordon servicing mainly high net earners, entrepreneurs and investor clients. As a whole, the firm are stringent about providing quality legal advice in an approachable and affordable way, as David explains. “Here at DG Law, we’re a law firm based in the city (Borough) with a team of nine, focusing mainly on commercial litigation, real estate and corporate law. Also, we offer an initial telephone call to assess the client’s requirements without charge or commitment. Then we arrange to an initial face-to-face consultation. In this meeting we explain the values we work within, our transparency, flexibility and honourability and how we ensure that this flows through our client relationships and interactions. “We discuss and agree with the client the expectations around legal input, timetable and costs. This helps us project manage the matter and the client to have visibility on how the transaction is progressing to an agreed end point. We’d then have regular review meetings to ensure the milestones are being met.” When discussing DG Law’s ongoing strategy, David informs us of the techniques the firm employs to ensure that they achieve their overall mission. “Three years ago, we focussed on one key business aim. Namely to be acknowledged as the top law firm in London for commercial clients and individuals who want high quality legal advice. Solutions focussed lawyers providing sensible, astute, affordable advice. Building a community not a client list. This was the vision that we set out with. “Underpinning that strategy was the goal of being recognised as one of London’s leading law firms in each of our service lines. We have achieved that in property law and now (having received this award of London’s most outstanding boutique law firm. for our work in commercial law. “This has involved focussing on giving the best possible service to our clients and make ourselves visible in the market, with key PR and marketing Company: DG Law Name: David Gordon Web Address: www.dg-law.co.uk Address: Lower Ground, 2 Lant Street, London SE1 1QR Telephone: 020 7113 4003 DG Law: A Community, Not a Client List B 1807AI44 initiatives, building a community of clients and contacts through regular networking and running our events.” Helping the firm to achieve their overall goal, is the dynamic team which form the backbone of DG Law. On the topic of the firm, David is keen to highlight how he has cultivated an atmosphere that which is conducive to a productive working environment. “My greatest satisfaction is seeing a person grow from tentative new recruit with minimal training blossoming, particularly on the fee earing side, into a fully-fledged lawyer able to run and manage their own matters. I am supported by key non-fee earners whose professional skills and expertise I rely on hugely. Also, I try to have a very open and fair discussions and regular catch ups to allow the opportunity for issues to be aired and then resolved early. We operate a policy of learning points, on the basis that no one willingly makes mistakes. However, we do acknowledge that things do go wrong (or could have gone better) from time to time. When something does crop up, the focus is purely on what is the issue, how can we fix it and what can we learn for next time? That way I hope we all remain collaborative and open with each other. “In addition, I try to live up to the values of flexibility, so everyone can log on remotely and access their accounts. Where necessary take whatever personal time they need to take to solve personal matters, so that they are then free to focus on their work wherever and whenever is most convenient for them at the time (and for the clients).” Looking ahead to what the future holds, David signs off by revealing what plans that lie in the pipeline for DG Law. Moving forward, we hope to grow the business so that it solves three times as many problems as it does now. This will undoubtedly involve employing and training more people which will be hugely exciting. I hope we can introduce and be recognised for technological developments in the way that we deliver our services. Two areas that we would like to be better known in, is the leisure (e.g. restaurants, bars, and entertainment) and technology sectors. Which is why, we are developing specific strategies around that.
