24 Acquisition International - Non-Profit Organisation Awards 2023 Apr23213 Most Supportive Mental Health & Wellbeing Charity Branch 2023 - North East London Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge is a local mind association and community mental health charity dedicated to creating a society in which people with mental health and emotional needs do not face stigma and discrimination. From providing support services to raising awareness to delivering events, MITHNR does some incredible work for its communities. or 30 years, Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge has been supporting the mental health and wellbeing of its communities, delivering high-quality support services, talking therapies, advocacy, and employment support. Every day, the organisation aims to make a difference. It operates based on the belief that no one should face a mental health problem alone. All donations it receives contribute towards ensuring that anyone struggling has somewhere to turn for support. For example, Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge runs a Safe Connections Community Hub, which supports people affected by suicidal thoughts, providing them with a safe space where they can discuss their feelings and concerns. It also welcomes discussion about why some individuals may experience these kinds of thoughts. The charity’s connectors provide both emotional and practical support, alongside tailored signposting to suit the individual’s needs. As well as this, Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge offers free and confidential counselling and talking therapies in Tower Hamlets and Newham across six or eight weekly sessions, running for 50 minutes each. The organisation offers face-to-face, video, and telephone counselling appointments, striving to suit the needs of as many individuals as possible and increase access to its services. The supportive services offered by Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge do not stop there. It also provides specialised help, including bereavement support and employment advice, and runs various community groups, which raise awareness of mental health, encourage people in recovery to support each other, and more. F At Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge, inclusivity is a priority; its services are for everyone. The organisation strives to be anti-racist by advocating for racial justice and mental health, providing support that is both engaging and effective for people from racialised communities. The charity is committed to fulfilling the needs of its community and campaigning to eradicate stigma, discrimination, and inequality. Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge is dedicated to ensuring its services are accessible and culturally appropriate for the diverse communities it works with. As part of this, it has developed its “Our Voices” services, which aim to give a voice to communities that face challenges, disadvantages, and difficulty accessing support. Having received a grant through National Mind, Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge has been able to continue its work with diverse Muslim women through the Sakinah Project, in which it has worked with local Mosques, community groups, and individuals to set up six safe spaces. These were created to provide Muslim women with access to mental health services and help them raise their voices about what matters to them the most. Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge has also delivered an eight-week programme of mental health awareness workshops, which incorporate faith and culture. Through this, the organisation has helped Muslim women share and learn from each other to develop faith-based skills for taking care of their mental wellbeing. As a result of its inclusive, supportive, and accessible services, Mind in Tower Hamlet, Newham, and Redbridge has been awarded Most Supportive Mental Health and Wellbeing Charity Branch in the Non-Profit Organisation Awards 2023.
