14 | Acquisition International, Non-Profit Organisation Awards 2024 May24754 Most Influential Cosmetic Nurses Association 2024 - Australia hroughout the pandemic, it became apparent to cosmetic nurses that no one was truly advocating for them with their businesses being closed longer than Hairdressers. According to research conducted by the CNA, the majority of cosmetic nurses felt that there was a dire need for an association to represent their needs. The CNA was created to help cosmetic professionals gain the recognition they deserve for their specific skillsets and expertise in Cosmetic Medicine. It is the non-profit’s objective to pursue formal recognition by the AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) and enhance the profile and reputation of cosmetic nurses. In Australia, all nurses currently need to adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Code of Conduct. The CNA advocates for a Code of Conduct and practising guidelines for cosmetic nurses that will be nationally recognised by all major parties within cosmetic medicine. This will assure patients that their cosmetic nurse adheres to the highest standards of ethical and safety practices. Cosmetic nursing is a highly rewarding and lucrative career path for nurses with a wide variety of career opportunities. By becoming a member of CNA, nurses have access to a network of like-minded individuals who share their expertise and passion for the sector. Membership also offers nurses access to best practice guidelines, templates, forms, tips, and advice on how to support patients throughout their treatment journey. With 30 years’ experience in Cosmetic Medicine, Sheri-lee Knoop is CNA’s President and was one of the first trainers to help launch Hylaform and Restylane in Europe. She currently runs her own business, Cosmetic Images, in Perth which provides non-surgical aesthetic treatments to a loyal clientele and is a Faculty trainer for Allergan Aesthetics. Sheri-lee Knoop shares, “The Board of the CNA is a group of passionate nurses working within the Cosmetic Medical industry. These volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that they are representing their peers at every opportunity to ensure all nurses are mentored, supported, and advocated for within the industry. Our mission is to serve and protect cosmetic nursing in Australia and to assist in maintaining the highest level of patient safety and transparent care.” CNA has partnered with several leading organisations to provide its members with discounted rates to educational events, exclusive deals on cosmeceuticals and a range of other deals. In addition to discounts, CNA ensures its members are represented by government bodies and kept up to date with the latest cosmetic governance. When speaking to SPA+CLINIC, Sheri-lee Knoop said, “The more members the CNA has, the more we have a voice in governance and the more support we can provide. We would like to see all nurses in the industry join the CNA to stand together and support each other to move towards better standards, education, and safety for patients and practitioners.” The CNA is a non-profit membership-based organisation dedicated to setting high standards and educational expectations for cosmetic nurses. The innovative organisation strives to provide nurses with a safe working environment while protecting patient safety.
