97 | UK Enterprise Awards 2023 Apr23202 Most Enriching Early Years Music Class Provider 2023 – South West Moo Music Central Dorset and Borders is a fun, interactive music class for babies, toddlers, and pre-school age children. It uses over 125 original songs encouraging social interaction and gently energetic musical action activities. The classes are accessible to all, inclusive of special educational needs. Nikki Skinner is the owner of Moo Music based in the Central Dorset and Borders region. For her, the key business ingredient is accessibility for all. As the class leader she ensures all of her classes, and all the other Moo Music classes taking place on-site, are run without judgement and are helpful in terms of any customer disabilities. Nikki’s eldest son is autistic, and so she is very mindful of SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) children, who might require extra help and assistance. As the mum of an autistic child, Nikki always felt as though she was the parent being singled out and looked at due to her child behaving differently. Consequently, she is determined to ensure everyone at her classes, children and grownups, feel comfortable and not judged in any way. She endeavours to keep the environment free of cliques, instead aiming to create an allinclusive, one-big-happy-family environment. It is fundamentally important to Nikki and the rest of the team at Moo Music for everyone to be seen as part of a family who support each other. If there’s ever anything troubling her customers, or weighing heavy on their minds, they should know they can turn to any member of the team for support, or just to listen. The other staff members at the Central Dorset and Borders Moo Music are local farmers Rachel Spender and Jenna Bowden. The team love to interact with the children, and mums and dads, and enjoy watching their young customers hitting milestone such as birthdays or key achievements. Moo Music delights in its group mentality, and in making families feel comfortable rather than like attendees at a business. It is looking at growing and expanding its premises to offer an on-site classroom and caf , as well as a safe space for children and parents. It would also like to be able to provide baby massage, yoga, and sweaty mama classes soon. Post Covid-19 pandemic, there has been an abundance of parent and baby/toddler class set-ups. Moo Music welcomes them, but it sees itself as a step apart owing to its extensive training, background, and knowledge which helps children to meet key development needs and stages. Moo Music makes use of 125 specially written Moo Music songs. These were all written and recorded by renowned singer songwriter Craig McLeish, and are catchy, educational and capture the imagination. The songs are presented using energetic actions, fantastic props and musical instruments. They encourage coordination and developmental skills in their young participants, with subjects ranging from visits to the farmyard, the colours of the rainbow, shapes, and even a marmite sandwicheating dinosaur! There is never a dull moment during the fantastic action songs of Moo Music’s 40-minute sessions. Its classes not only develop musical ability and enjoyment of music, but help youngsters with speech, motor, and language development. It also helps children to advance their social skills. Moo Music Central Dorset and Borders is a fantastic way for both children and adults to meet and make new friends. It has recently been awarded a significant title of Most Enriching Early Years Music Class Provider 2023 – South West. It is such a worthy winner; with its dedication to developing an essential parenting hub, its extensive coverage of SEND needs, and its focus on providing a safe space 0–5-year-olds can play, move, and enjoy themselves.
