The Association for International Arbitration (AIA) is a non-profit organization open to all those interested in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), irrespective of nationality and level of experience.

Since its creation in 2001, AIA strives to bring together the global community in the field of ADR and to promote ADR. AIA also regularly organises conferences and seminars on the wide range of ADR issues in Belgium and we are actively involved in the organisation of various educational events internationally. Moreover, they organise tailored trainings on ADR topics.

Future of Mediation in Belgium (FMB) Event – 15th of May

This session will focus on the assignment which the Belgian Ministry of Justice granted to the FMB committee, which consists of: identifying existing initiatives related to mediation; proposing regulatory intervention measures on mediation; and proposing a comprehensive action plan for mediation.

Address: Palace of Justice, Brussels, Belgium.

Date & time: 15 May 2015 from 13.45 – 17.00.

Language: English, French and Dutch.

Fee: € 20 (VAT excluded). This is a symbolic amount in order to cover the organizational costs of the event.

 

An Overview of Dispute Resolution Methods and their Commercial Benefit – 19th of May

This seminar is designed to provide its participants with an overview of the various existing dispute resolution methods (e.g. med-arb, arb-med, arb-med-arb, conciliation, mediation, arbitration, baseball arbitration, etc). It is specifically aimed to provide knowledge to those who are interested in dispute resolution.

Joint Event with the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce and the Brussels Diplomatic Academy –  ISDS: A Way Forward, 27th of May

The recent international debate surrounding investment protection and ISDS has been characterized by misconceptions and confusion, typically driven by a small number of undecided cases. The aim of this joint event is to explain the basis and functioning of ISDS and to have a more fact-based debate.

Three days negotiation training: “How to Reach the best Deal”? – 24th, 25th and 26th of June

 The 3-day training is carefully designed to provide the respective participants a set of effective skills for a successful deal making. The training is delivered over an intensive course lasting 3 days that consists of a series of lectures and simulation exercises, at the end of which, each participant will receive a certificate of participation. This course is suitable for anyone who is required to negotiate and influence others to achieve results at the workplace.

Mediation Training – 15th, 16th and 17th of July

This course is ideal for mediators who wish to update their skills and knowledge and for all those who want to learn more about (facilitative) mediation. EMPTJ Session 2015

Qualifying Assessment Program approved by the International Mediation Institute 2015

The AIA is pleased to host, for the third consecutive year, the Qualifying Assessment Program (QAP) approved by the International Mediation Institute (IMI). IMI is unique as it is the only organization in the world to cultivate global, professional standards for experienced mediators, advocates and others involved in the field of ADR. In addition, lMI convenes stakeholders, promotes understanding and disseminates skills all in a non-service provider capacity.

Master Class Investment Arbitration

Provisional Program: The Master Class is organized together Brussels Diplomatic Academy. The law on foreign investment protection is one of the fastest developing and intellectually challenging branches of international law with high practical relevance. Investment arbitration is predicted to be a major factor in the development of the global economic system.

AIA Brussels Arbitration School

AIA Brussels Arbitration School was created to address the increasing demand for specialised teaching in arbitration. It is a five day intensive and complete crash course on arbitration which rewards it’s participants with an ABAS arbitrator certificate. The curriculum of the program is conceived by arbitration experts and is aimed at lawyers, in-house counsels, experts and other Alternative Dispute Resolution practitioners from around the globe. It also constitutes 25 Bar points.
