Time Management for Business Owners

If you own a small business, you’re most likely not a stranger to juggling many tasks. Between meeting deadlines, communicating with customers, and keeping track of payments, it can feel like your list of things to do never ends. Time management is perhaps one of the most important things to learn. Luckily, there are some tricks that’ll help you stay on track and leave you with enough time to kick back and relax at the end of the day.

Plan Ahead

If your workload is all over the place, you might be so overwhelmed that you can’t get everything done. If you are disorganized right now, start small. Set goals to help your business stay on track. First, make a list of realistic goals for the week. Make sure they’re detailed enough the keep you motivated. Take care of one every day. Take time to notice when you get the most done. That might be at a certain hour of the day or after you’ve gotten some exercise in. There are time tracking apps that can look at how long you spend on a task. If you find that one period of the day is the most productive for you, then devote that hour to the most important tasks of the day.

Use Technology

A smartphone can be an amazing tool when it comes to productivity. You can find any number of both free and paid apps to help you be more productive and improve your workflow. Many apps allow you to create tasks and set reminders. For owners who charge by the hour, you can use apps to help you track how much time you’re spending. That way, you can easily invoice for it later. Even if you don’t charge an hourly rate, these apps can still make you more aware of where your time is going each day.

Many business owners suffer from anxiety. Some entrepreneurs have found that cannabis may help relieve anxiety, making them more productive. Finally, you can find many other apps that can help you manage your overall workflow. If you’re juggling multiple projects, you can use these tools to help you and your team keep track of the jobs for each project.

Choose What to Delegate

If your business is still young, you’ll likely want to take on everything to make sure it gets done properly. You’re probably already used to learning the skills you need. But as you continue, your time grows more precious, so you’ll need to delegate at some point. That might mean giving projects to your employees or outsourcing work. Give yourself the freedom to not have to do everything yourself. First, look at what you don’t like doing. By pinpointing the jobs you dislike, you can decide if someone else might be better suited to them. If your company doesn’t have many employees yet, look for freelancers or contractors who can help you out as needed.
